In 2018 Tranzurban began operating 60 percent of the Metlink bus network under contract to Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC). This includes delivering urban services in Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Wellington city. 

With depots located in Rongotai, Grenada, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt and Wainuiomata, our team of drivers, operations specialists and mechanics keep our wheels turning.

Tranzurban is part of Tranzit Group, the award-winning, family owned transport and tourism company operating throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand. We’re bus people bringing electric buses to Wellington's Metlink network

We see fully electric buses as the way forward! With 42 electric buses currently in operation on the Metlink we are assisting Greater Wellington Regional Council achieve its target of carbon neutrality by 2030 ... and helping them deliver multiple social and environmental benefits. 

These include: a quiet and smooth ride for passengers, reduction of road noise for residents and workers, and a reduction in carbon emissions and air pollution throughout inner city Wellington.  

All our electric double deck buses are built in New Zealand at Kiwi Bus Builders in Tauranga using the best, global technology solutions that are the best option for Wellington. This fleet also includes our "Repower" bus which in a Southern Hemisphere first innovation in 2021, was successfully converted from a diesel double deck to a 100% electric bus, by our own workshop team in Masterton!

In addition we have 225 Euro 6 diesel buses, which meet the highest global emission standards and deliver the greenest, smoothest journey for passengers. These vehicles are fitted with the latest technology to significantly reduce emissions on our roads.
